Project: Edikan Gold Mine

Client: Perseus Mining

Location: Ghana

Client Overview

The Edikan Gold Mine is 90 per cent owned by Perseus Mining Limited and is located in Ghana.

The Edikan comminution circuit consists of a primary crusher feeding a single stage semi autogenous grinding mill in a closed circuit with cyclones operating in conjunction with a pebble crusher.

The Challenge

Variable feed sources with hard ore blends contributed to a dynamic and unstable processing environment. Operation near maximum conditions was required to meet corporate targets, which was not being achieved.

Through the implementation of MillROC, there was the identified opportunity to:

  • Improve circuit stability.

  • Optimise operating conditions.

  • Increase circuit throughput.

The MillROC Solution

Continual support via MillROC was provided to successfully address the challenges in combination with the installation of a MillSlicer and MillStar for advanced process control. This required implementing a new control philosophy, online soft sensors and setting of target process variables, combined with coaching and training.

Outcome

  • 27% increase in plant throughput at optimised and more stable operating conditions.

  • Extension of the liner life from approximately three and a half months to well over four months.

  • MillROC established a source of project history and processing knowledge to sustain performance.
